When exactly does my child arrive and leave school?

1. If your child is in the current AM hybrid cohort, they will arrive between 8:05 and 8:15 and dismiss at 2:00. Wednesdays dismissal is 1:20. Kindergarten release every day is 1:20.

 

2. If your child is in the current PM hybrid cohort, they will arrive between 8:15-8:25 and dismiss at 2:10. Wednesdays dismissal is 1:30. Kindergarten release every day is 1:30.

 

Have student photo days been adjusted then?

Yes, we have shifted the student photo days to 4.20 and 4.21. More to come.

Why are we staggering arrivals and departures by 10 minutes?

To prevent clustering, keeping families safer, and staying in line with Public Health Guidelines/SSSPP.

 

If my child is in the 2nd cohort (8:25 am), may I drop them off early?

No. It is really important to come at the time listed above. If your children are biking or walking to school, the 2nd group should not find themselves on the campus until 8:15, at the earliest.

 

Can I walk my child to their classroom? 

No. The campus remains closed to those not working onsite. We will have instructional aids placed around the campus at key areas helping to direct students to classrooms.

 

Do my children still enter/depart campus in the same places?

Yes. K-2 students will enter and leave through the parking lot area and grades 3-5 from Idyleberrry.

 

Will the bus lanes currently used, be available for parents starting 4.12?

No. Starting 4.12, the bus lanes currently used will be closed. The loop by the K wing will be the only option for drop-offs and pick-ups. Remember, grades K-2 enter through the loop, and grades 3-5 enter from Idylberry.

 

Can I park in the staff parking lot for just a moment or along the inside lanes by the K buildings inside the loop?

No. If you are driving, head through the loop, open car doors, children come out, they head to class. Do not leave your car parked and unattended as you will have folks behind you trying to get in. Please do not walk through the parking lot as that is a recipe for disaster. Cars are coming from odd angles. Not a safe practice.

 

When my child arrives, where do they line up?

Students are to head directly to their classroom, not the front of the school in our current lines. Teachers will have spaces for them by their doorways marked by 3' distance markers. They will share where to line up next week. This will be our new norm moving forward.

How important is it that I don't hang around and socialize with other families after pick up or drop off?

Very. No way to say this other than, please just drop off and pick up and head home. No watching and waiting and chatting. I have seen a few cases of Covid sprout up at a few Marin schools recently and we think it may be related to parents socializing on campus grounds. This is super important and thanks for understanding.

 

Can you explain the social distancing guidelines again?

Between children, the distance is now 3'. This will be the norm for us in lines, playing, sitting, working, walking, and in the classrooms. Between adults and adults, adults and children, and when eating, the guidelines remain 6'.

 

What does recess look like?

Morning recess is staggered at 3 different time slots on the blacktop, extended to 20 minutes, and students can eat snacks. When eating, they must remain 6' distance away from a peer. On rainy days, they are permitted to eat in the classroom. There is an afternoon recess slot for Kindergarten. Home support teams will be supervising students. Hand washing and mask protocols remain in effect. 

 

What does lunch look like?

Lunch is 35 minutes long and staggered into 3 different time slots (see screenshot below) and they are correlated with recess times. For example, a class in the early slot will eat lunch in the early lunch slot.

Students in grades 1-5 will be eating in the lunch courtyard, 6' apart. Kindergarten will be eating in specially designed spaces in the K yard under the shade of our trees, also 6' apart.

K-5 will have 15-20 minutes to eat and 15-20 minutes to play. Home support teams will be supervising students. Hand washing and mask protocols remain in effect. 

How does the school program work and who is the vendor?

This is new for us!  We are joining Vallecito and Mary Silveira elementary school in a "grab and go" format. In order to receive daily lunch, you must register first: 

  • Families received a flyer announcing the lunch program at the site and instructions for how to sign up for an account.

  • Any student attending school in the Miller Creek School District is eligible for lunch at no cost. Please create or update an account at https://www.thelunchmaster.com/register/ and place your lunch order by Thursday, April 8th by 10 am.

  • All meals must be ordered by 10:00 Tuesday of the week before.

Has the 30 point plan (SSSPP) been updated and where can I find that document?

Yes, it has been updated with new guidelines on several of those points. This is a fluid document and will be updated as we move along. It always resides on the front of the LVE website (See screenshot below)

Are parents still required to wear masks even as we reside in the Orange Tier?

Yes! This has not changed. Never forget that mask when stepping onto campus ad we always have extras in our office in case you or your child forgets.

 

Will we still be using Crisis Go each morning?

Yes. Please temperature check your children and continue with that process each morning. For the most part, all of you are doing a great job. Seriously! There are still some children who are having to leave their lines and get temp checked by our health nurse with a phone call home. 

 

If my child is not feeling well, should I keep home still?

Yes. And we appreciate that so much. Stay home if not well.

Where do our Can Do ART and PE learnings take place?

Knowing that we are prioritizing core academic learnings, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies for these last 8 weeks, PE and Art will remain asynchronous in the afternoons, 2:00-3:00pm.

 

Did I hear that 3-5 Music classes will be live?

Yes, you did. Guidelines have changed and our three musical programs are going live starting April 12th. See schedule below:

 

4th-grade music (live): Tuesdays, 11:00-11:30

4th-grade music (remote academy): Tuesday,1:50-2:20

 

5th-grade music (live):  Tuesdays, 11:35-12:05

5th-grade virtual (remote academy): Thursday, 2:00-2:30

 

Will you be opening play structures again?

Yes. The new guidelines mentioned that play structures can be used as long we are following all of the other important guidelines like mask-wearing and hand washing. We are looking at a way to do this fairly without mixing classes. Stay tuned.

 

Are the cleaning protocols the same?

Indeed! With one exception. We are no longer operating with two different cohorts so no cleaning in between classes. That being said, we will still be running cleanings throughout the day and our custodians will continue to move forward with their program of cleaning classes and restrooms.

I so appreciate a parent of a first-grader calling me to ask about quarantining after traveling out of the country!  This parent is a model to me of what actions need to be taken to protect our community and help us end Covid.  My deep appreciation to everyone else who is taking these same steps! It is always better to b transparent and ask us what to do if you are uncertain. We are partners.

If I want to volunteer with arrival and drop off, how do I do that?

If you are vaccinated and would like to help in the front of the school with arrivals and departures, we would love to have you starting on April 12th. To do so, be sure you are vaccinated, send a photo of your vaccination information to Teri and me, and sign up here. THANK YOU!!!

With our shift to orange Tier, what else has changed recently?

  • Retail & grocery stores: can expand indoor capacity to 100%.

  • Restaurants – indoor dining: can expand indoor capacity to 50% or 200 people (whichever is fewer).

  • Museums & movie theaters: can expand indoor capacity to 50% or 200 people (whichever is fewer).

  • Houses of worship: can expand indoor capacity to 50% or 200 people (whichever is fewer).

  • Weddings/funerals: can expand indoor capacity to 50% or 200 people (whichever is fewer).

  • Family recreation/entertainment facilities: can expand indoor capacity to 25%.

  • Gyms & fitness studios: can expand indoor capacity to 25% and reopen indoor pools.

  • Breweries/wineries that do not serve food: can expand indoor capacity to 25% or 100 people (whichever is fewer).

  • Bars that do not serve food: can operate outdoors only.

  • Non-essential offices may reopen (but working remotely is still encouraged).

  • Higher education: can expand indoor capacity to 50% for indoor lectures.

Is it ok to let our guard down now that we are in the Orange tier?

While the Covid-19 landscape is showing signs of improvement there is much out there we should still be concerned about. PLEASE DO NOT LET 'ORANGE' BE A SIGNAL THAT WE STOP TAKING PRECAUTIONS.

"Our covid case numbers are decreasing, people are receiving vaccinations. Do we let our guard down? Here's what the CDC says: We’re still learning how vaccines will affect the spread of COVID-19. After you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you should keep taking precautions in public places like wearing a mask, staying 6 feet apart from others, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces until we know more."

TO PRACTICE SAFETY WITH THIS VIRUS. 

The very last thing we need is a spike in Marin. We need our kids back in school, our businesses running, and giving our health care folks support...

What is the latest with 5th-grade promotion?

Department of Public Health Guidelines have changed again and we can now hold a live program on-site, which we are very excited about. Our 5th-grade teaching team is working to design that very event. Stay tuned for more information about what this will look like. Much appreciation to our Home and School Team who has offered to stand by in support of the needs of the event.

Lucas Valley Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee information - Please consider joining our wonderful team!

Click here for last week's agenda and notes. I really, really love and appreciate this team for many reasons. One, of course, is the important content and purpose, but the other is the teacher/parent team who have committed themselves to a critical cause in support of marginalized groups. It is a selfless contribution in the name of bringing awareness to others regarding racism and equity. The conversations are illuminating and with such positive progressive energy.

 

The following principles continue to guide the path for our site team:

  • Promoting and celebrating diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism in a variety of ways including school-wide gatherings, cultural events, workshops, parent education, and community conversations.

  • Providing all members of the community with a supportive space and the tools to learn about, discuss, and ask questions about issues and topics related to diversity and identity.
